The Skye Growing Farm is situated at altitude on an escarpment adjacent to the beautiful Inanda Dam, north-east of Hillcrest and 35km inland of Durban in Kwa Zulu Natal.

The business was founded in 1981 as Bryan's Seedlings by Bryan and Liz Van Rooyen. It was purchased by Mike and Kerry Toft in 1996, when the name was changed to Skye Seedlings. In 2001, Skye was taken over by Gregg and Tracey Clarke, who still own and manage the business.

Skye's geographical position falls outside of the traditional hail and frost belts, enabling year-round production in the open, although cold mid-winter temperatures do affect production in the months of June to August. Production in the open ensures that seedlings and plants are grown in the same conditions they will be exposed to in the land/garden and therefore minimise transplanting shock.

Given the perishable nature of product, Skye principally services Clients across the eThekwini Municipal area and into adjacent districts. However, occasional deliveries have been made to clients in the former Transkei, Matatiele, Msinga, Weenen and Rustenburg. In 2008, Skye successfully consolidated and packed a high value export order for sea freight to Angola, comprising 5 Containers (Open and Refrigerated). Numerous Open Field, Tunnel and Hydroponic Farmers as well as NGO and Governmental Agencies/Departments/Organisations purchase Skye's range of seedlings and plants.
